HP Includes Rogue Wave’s TotalView in the GPU Startup Kit

Offers the most cost-effective solution for debugging at the full scale of the machine

August 23, 2011 – Rogue Wave Software, the largest independent provider of cross-platform software development tools and embedded components for the next generation of HPC/High Performance Computing applications, is proud to announce that HP has chosen to include the TotalView family of application analysis and debugging products to be included as part of HP’s GPU Starter Kit.

The single-rack GPU Starter Kit offers over 13TF of peak performance, and is designed to enable customers to move quickly and at a low cost into supercomputing with parallel processing on GPUs. Rogue Wave is delighted to offer a companion get-started TotalView package, designed to complement HP’s offering by providing advanced development tools at a very attractive price point. It includes the debugger for CUDA, integrated memory debugging with MemoryScape and ThreadSpotter for performance optimization. Rogue Wave’s TotalView package is the most economical option for debugging using the capacity of the entire system: the package includes 48 CPU tokens, 32 GPU debug tokens, and 3 ThreadSpotter seats.

“This starter system from HP is a very powerful machine,” said Scott Lasica, VP Global Alliances with Rogue Wave. “We believe that purchasers of this kit intend to perform complex computations on it, and will need to debug their applications across all the cores and GPU cards simultaneously. With our offering, developers will have the tools necessary to debug applications that are using the full scale of the machine. Other debugging options may appear to carry lower initial price tags, but they don’t provide the full breadth of capability that TotalView offers and actually become more expensive at scale.”

TotalView is designed for developer productivity, simplifying and shortening the process of developing, debugging, and optimizing complex code. It provides a unique combination of capabilities for pinpointing and fixing hard-to-reproduce bugs, memory leaks, and performance issues related to GPU development. Developers moving into the supercomputing arena with HP’s GPU Starter Kit will appreciate being able to navigate complex code structures easily thanks to TotalView’s powerful data visualization features. And with MemoryScape and ThreadSpotter included, they can interactively view and analyze heap memory usage and implement performance optimizations, ensuring the quality and efficiency of the applications they build on the system.
